Concussion Management in Okotoks

Sitting in a dark room and waiting for concussion symptoms to resolve is no longer the advised medical management of concussions. Research is consistently showing that participation in a guided rehabilitation program results in faster recoveries. Our therapists will perform a thorough history and physical assessment following your injury and create an individualized treatment plan specific to you and your injury. Your treatment program may include:

  • Hands-on manual therapy of the neck
  • Vestibular rehabilitation
  • Visual rehabilitation
  • Progressive and Guided Exercise Prescription
  • Education
  • Return to Sport/School/Planning

Return to Sport/Work/School Planning

Return to activity too quickly can increase the risk of sustaining a more serious injury (second impact syndrome).  Our therapists are trained in a progressive reintegration into sport/school/work, and will guide you in your return.

Baseline Testing

Baseline testing refers to a series of physical and cognitive tests performed on athletes prior to injury, to determine the athlete’s “normal” brain function. In the event that the athlete sustains an injury in the future, the data collected during baseline testing will be used to compared to post injury data. This comparison will aid the therapist in diagnosing concussion, as well as determining when the athlete has recovered.

Dynamic Physiotherapy is able to perform baseline testing on individual athletes as well as in groups.

Our baseline concussion testing is eligible for reimbursement by private health insurance plans.
